From The Gaytonian, July 1954: "The 1st XI results, to date, are quite impressive, for out of the seven matches played five have been won and two drawn. The team, which includes only two old Colours and a number of quite young players, has settled down well, from the beginning og the season.
"The successes of the 1st XI can be mainly attributed to the side's alert fielding. Good fielding has been a feature of every game, except for a brief lapse against S. Marylebone, and brilliant catches against Ealing and St. Clement Danes assured the side of victory.
"In the sphere of bowling, both the vice-captain, McKenna, and Raiment have distinguished themselves. However, the team still lacks a good spin bowler. The batting has been sound, the lowest score being 91 against Pinner County School. Rolph, at the beginning of the season and Sherriff, in recent games, have done particularly well."
