the Board of Trade at a relatively low rank in 1948. By the time of his
retirement in 1989 he had risen to become Ambassador of the European Communities
to the United States Government. Has written several books, including an
autobiography "The Mandarin's Tale". Sir Roy Denman lived in Belgium
where he was a member of the Cambridge Society of Belgium (2004). He died
on April 4th, 2006.)

war. He was accepted for a
post in Tanganyika by the Colonial Administration Service in 1948, spent
six months learning Swahili at the School of Oriental and African Studies,
University of London, and was expecting to sail for Tanganyika in 1949. He
was in the Colonial Administration in Tanganyika until independence. He
has written extensively on Local Government in Africa. Philip Mawhood is
currently (2003) an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, and is
believed to have retired to live in Devon.)

Salmon, R O S - VC (After service as a
pilot in the
Navy, when he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Ross Salmon became an
entertainer and author, remembered for his "cowboy" character. He
appeared on early children's television, originally on Shirley Abicair's
programmes before launching his own series. His character was a "real"
cowboy informing children about what being a cowboy was all about, things like
how to recognise different animal footprints, or how to whittle, the art of
horse management, how to make and use a lasso, etc. He set up an American Western
style ranch called the "Lazy S" at Longdown in Devon and introduced a breed
of hardy cattle. There were a series of Ross Salmon books and annuals,
printed in the 50's. He was a Broadcaster for the BBC for over 30 years,
covering Sport for BBC South West. He died on April 14th, 2004.)
