Old Gaytonians Poetry Corner

On not being mentioned in a play's review

by Geoff Perkins,  Gaytonian 1971

Not even "an interesting performance";
Perhaps you left in the interval?
No mention of my psycho-neurotic undertones;
Perhaps I should have found you out
And bought you a drink beforehand.
What happened to the cast photo you took,
Me and three extras and seven stage hands;
I have written to ask for it several times
And received no reply.
All the trouble and heart burn,
The worries over laddered tights
And drooping moustaches
And sewing the script into my hat;
To you I was a shapeless figure
Flitting across the stage between breaks in the action;
I all the world's a stage
Will I ever receive a good notice?
