Mr. Robert James Batchelor - History Master 1967-69

Mr. Robert Batchelor was born on 27th April 1936 and educated at Purley County Grammar from 1947 until 1954.  He did National Service  with the R.A.F.  between 1954 and 1956.

He attended  Manchester  University  from  1959  until  1962,  reading History with subsidiary Economics, graduating B.A.  (Hons.)  in  1962.

His first teaching job was at Harrow County from 1967 until  1969, teaching History.  He is remembered for giving out many detentions to his First Form class in 1967.  He was a Careers Master and interviewed members of the Fifth Form to try and help tham with their career and curriculum problems.

He left Harrow County to become Head of Liberal Studies and a Housemaster at Hackney Downs Grammar School in September 1969.
