Harrow County School for Boys

Rugby 1967-68

The season began with the Rugby Training camp, and the success of the season amply justified its being held.  Moreover, our early victories were due to our superior fitness, and only gradually were the skills developed.

Foundations for success were laid in the pack, which contained a few experienced players who were with us only by the grace of the "A" level examiners.  Similarly, the back division, small but skilful, contained a blend of youth and experience.  Thus we had a thoroughly good team - with no really outstanding individuals - which became even better as a result of the vicious and regular training under the axe of Mr. V. B. Edwards.

Our thanks, then, are due to him and to the Captain, Daf Doole, and we are left with the thought that it will be extremely difficult to find a better team in the future or for us who were in the team to be told of better teams in the past.

Douglas Ainley (who was Captain, 1st XV 1968-69)
